Rome’s iconic Hotel Eden reopens after a year-and-a-half-long renovation.
Rome’s Hotel Eden defines luxury. The Dorchester Collection’s stunning hotel has welcomed everyone from royals to celebrities — Princess Maria of Bourbon, Grand Duchess Olga of Russia and King Alfonso XIII of Spain are just a few well-heeled notables to sign its golden guest book — since the building first started receiving guests in 1889. Now the property is ready to be in the spotlight yet again — reopening after a year-and-a-half-long renovation that promises to take luxury lodging to a new level. Here’s what you can expect.
Rooms
The new design of Hotel Eden’s 98 guestrooms and suites was purposely configured to capture the alluring natural light of the city. Expect a sophisticated airy design, high ceilings and tall widows overlooking the city. Historic authenticity meets modern luxury through furnishings like distinct artwork, Bang & Olufsen TVs and bluetooth connectivity. The Roman bath-inspired bathrooms are decorated in white and gold and offer marble vanities, a walk-in rain shower with separate bathtub along with Bottega Veneta toiletries. Splurge on the Bellavista Penthouse Suite — it was once the site of a famed meeting between Louis Vuitton and Bulgari — for its rooftop location, private elevator, luxurious master bedroom that connects to a marble bathroom.
Dining
Hotel Eden offers three distinct drinking and dining experiences. Crowning the hotel you’ll find La Terrazza, which, in addition to innovative seasonal Mediterranean cuisine, offers sweeping views of all of Rome in a fine dining atmosphere. Executive chef Fabio Ciervo leads the kitchen and aims to utilize Rome’s bounty of fresh produce and spices to incorporate into his dishes. The restaurant also offers an exclusive chef’s table for eight guests, which has a window that opens to the kitchen, giving diners an opportunity to speak directly to the chef and his team.
Il Giardino Ristorante & Bar is the more casual sister of La Terrazza. Escape Rome’s busy streets to dine on classic pasta dishes, pizza and cicchetti Italian tapas. Gaze out at Rome through floor-to-ceiling windows and enjoy the restaurant’s open-air terrace.
Open all day, La Libreria, stands out as the perfect meeting place to enjoy everything from breakfast to indulgent dishes later in the afternoon. Look closely when you stop it, its “secret bar” is the perfect place to slip into to enjoy innovative cocktails, spirits and grappa.
Spa
Celebrities swear by Sonya Dakar and her products in Beverly Hills and now Dakar has her first international partnership with Hotel Eden. This was also a first for the hotel; it never had a spa before the renovation. If you’re wondering what to do before traveling, line up a reservation for a one-of-a-kind spa experience. Escape to one of their four private spa suites to indulge in holistic therapies and treatments that utilize products by Dakar and Officina Profumo – Farmaceutica di Santa Maria Novella, once one of Rome’s oldest pharmacies, which now produces luxury and organic beauty products. The spa also boasts a blow-dry bar and a mani-pedi suite complete with OPI products.
